Senior Pastor
How did you come to know Jesus? When I was a child my parents and grandparents were faithful in taking me to church. I heard the good news about Jesus many times. However, it was not until I was in college that I came to fully understand the depth of my sinful nature and need for a Savior. My desire was to please God and live a righteous life, but I tried doing so in my own power and in my own way. I thought that if I could just be good enough that God would take pity and save me from my sin. But as hard as I tried, I could not succeed at consistent victory over sin. My life was like a spiritual roller coaster ride.
It was at a revival meeting in Chattanooga, Tennessee that I finally understood that salvation is by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-10). I asked God to forgive my sin even though I couldn't do anything worthy enough to deserve his grace. I asked the Lord to be the boss of my life. Not only did I experience newness of life in Christ, God also began a work, which continues, to make me more and more into his image. On the evening that I fully committed to being a disciple of Christ, I also followed the Lord in believer's baptism by immersion and announced my call to ministry.
What excites you the most about FBC Bethalto? I am thrilled to see more and more people becoming fed-up with superficial ‘churchianity' and growing hungry for a real, life transforming walk with Christ. It is exciting to be a part of a church that is willing to encourage one another in the blessings of being disciples and making disciples.
What should people know about your role at FBC Bethalto? My primary role is to "equip the saints for the work of ministry." This is accomplished through many avenues of servant leadership. For example, I put much priority in the teaching, preaching, and relative application of God's Holy Word. I also have the honor of providing pastoral counsel from a perspective that the Bible affords sufficient direction to every facet and challenge of life. Included in my role are opportunities to visit those who are suffering and ill. My greatest joy is in mentoring those who want to be authentic in their faith.
What brings you joy outside of your work? "roadie" cycling; redneck bow hunter: "slayer of deer, turkey and coyote"
