"I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you." ~ Psalm 119:11
In 2012 our church family is encouraged to memorize at least one Scripture verse every week throughout 2012. Imagine the benefits of having 52 verses stored in your heart by the end of the year. Few things will strengthen your relationship with Christ more than memorizing His Word. The ability to be used as a tool in the Master's hand will be greatly expanded as you hide His Word in your heart.
Compiled into one document are some of the favorite verses gathered from members of our church family. This compilation is meant to simply give you inspiration about potential verses to commit to memory. There are over 150 verses listed to help motivate your choices. In addition, there are entire passages suggested for the consideration of disciples who might want to memorize whole portions of Scripture.
One learning aid is to write the memory verse for the week on a 3x5 index card. On one side of the card compose the verse and the reference. On the back side register just the reference. That way the card can be used as a sort of flash card. For multiple verses, or longer passages, you may want to break the text up into smaller increments. Use the version of the Bible you like best, or choose an unfamiliar version so that the different wording forces you to concentrate more on the meaning of the verse.
Repetition is the key to learning. So when you are memorizing a verse, review it often. Keep it near you day and night. Write the verse over and over again and repeat it audibly. Use the verse in your prayers. Share the verse in your correspondence to encourage others. The more creative you are in applying your target verses, the better the Scripture will adhere to your soul.
Scripture memory is a spiritual disciple. It demands hard work. However, the rewards are bountiful!
