Dear church family,

Over the last several days, the COVID-19 outbreak has begun to impact Illinois and our surrounding area. We’re sure that many of our church family have been watching the news with anxiety and concern.

We want to remind you that we serve a God who is strong and mighty who protects and watches over us. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” While this verse encourages us to not FEAR, it also encourages us to use SELF-CONTROL. Self-control requires wisdom and thoughtful action.

It is with great regret that the leaders of Upward and FBC Bethalto have decided to cancel the rest of the Upward season to ensure the safety of our Upward families and volunteers. Please be watching your email with details about picking up your end of the year gift.

At this time, officials are not recommending the cancelation of churches. We will continue to have services on Sunday. If health officials do recommend a closure, or if we determine that it is in the best interest of our church family to cancel, we will inform everyone to the best of our ability.

With that said, we want to make you aware of some of the decisions we are making to keep everyone safe and healthy:

  • We are increasing the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting throughout the building. This includes high-touch surface areas including doorknobs and light switches.
  • We will provide hand sanitizing stations for children as they enter and leave the children’s ministry area.
  • We are working to ensure that we have extra hand sanitizer in our atrium and that soap is well-stocked in our bathrooms.
  • We have also posted hand-washing signs in every bathroom throughout the building.
If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms (fatigue, cough, fever, shortness of breath); have been exposed to the virus or think you have been exposed; elderly; or have a compromised immune system, we ask that you stay home and away from all Sunday activities.

Please see the attached pdf on COVID-19 from Johns Hopkins Hospital about virus protect. This infographic has a lot of great information about COVID-19. We will keep you updated on the closure status as we get new information.

Remember, if you are sick, please stay home and join us for worship online at or

God bless,

FBC Staff
